Barry Wright

Barry Wright started his fire department career with his hometown fire department (Granville Volunteer Fire Department) in 1990, worked part-time for several area fire departments, and began his full-time career with Hamilton Township Fire Department in 2001. Barry currently serves as a professional Firefighter/Paramedic/Certified Fire Safety Inspector/Fire Investigator with the Violet Township Fire Department, Local 3558, in Pickerington, Ohio; he has been with the department for 23 years. Barry was certified by the IAFF as a peer supporter in 2021 an has served in peer support in and around central Ohio for 5 years. Barry has also been a Registered Nurse for 31 years and worked in ICU’s, Emergency Rooms, and was a Flight Nurse for several years. Barry noticed several issues within himself and decided in 2019 to attend Save A warrior to stay ahead of his mental health and has never looked back. He is a proud graduate of Cohort 059 and has returned several times as a Shepard to help lead struggling men to a better life. In 2023 Barry secured one of the only certified service dogs in the fire service. Rafy goes everywhere with Barry and she has proven to not only make a huge difference in Barry’s life but she is loved by his entire department. Barry lives in Thornville, Ohio and in his spare time Barry enjoys traveling, boating and spending time with his wife of 30 years, Peggy, and there two grown daughters Victoria and Meghan.
