Providing Peer Support After a Potentially Traumatic Event
This course prepares peer support team members to effectively assist individuals following exposure to potentially traumatic events. Participants will gain an understanding of how psychological trauma impacts the brain, along with the signs and symptoms of acute stress and related disorders.
Through interactive discussion, role-play scenarios, and proven post-incident protocols, the course emphasizes practical skills for providing timely, appropriate, and compassionate support. Participants will leave equipped to better recognize when intervention is needed, and how to respond with confidence in order to contribute to a supportive and resilient organizational culture.
Participants of this class will receive 3 hours of peer support continuing education in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 2317.023

Advanced Active Listening Skills for Peer Support Team Members
This advanced course is designed for peer support team members seeking to refine and elevate their active listening skills in both everyday interactions and high-stress, crisis situations. Building on foundational training, peer team members will strengthen therapeutic communication techniques essential for effective peer support, emotional de-escalation, and crisis response.
Through interactive exercises, scenario-based practice, and guided feedback, the program focuses on deep listening, recognizing verbal and nonverbal cues, and responding with clarity, empathy, and confidence. Emphasis is placed on adapting communication approaches to meet the needs of individuals in distress while maintaining professionalism and boundaries.
Participants will leave with enhanced skills to navigate complex conversations, foster trust, and provide meaningful support when it matters most.

Addiction and Recovery
The Addiction and Recovery course provides useful information about substance use and other addictive conditions commonly found among Fire and EMS workers. This program discusses the signs and symptoms as well as strategies to support those struggling with substance use and the challenges of recovery. This course provides information about available resources for struggling members and peer support team members working to support them in their time of need.
Participants of this class will receive 3 hours of peer support continuing education in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 2317.023
