Matt Schenek

I have been a career firefighter/paramedic for 23 years, the last 17 of which have been with the City of Strongsville Fire Department, Local 2882. I am a proud and active union member. I have previously been assigned to the fire investigation team and now spearhead three separate community outreach and charitable events in which L2882 participates yearly.
I am married with two sons, ages 18 and 6. I enjoy running to clear my mind and fishing, boating and spending time at the Lake Erie Islands to relax. I have recently gone back to college, where I am completing my B.S. in psychology/mental health.

I was drawn to peer support after witnessing first hand the effects addiction can have on an individual in their personal and professional lives. I saw the isolation and loneliness that can accompany one struggling with mental health and/or addiction, as well as the devastating and long lasting effects of suicide upon family, friends and coworkers.

I want to let others know that they are not alone. I am available to listen and to help guide members toward the needed resources to live a healthy and fulfilled life.
