Mindy Gabriel currently serves as a Deputy Fire Chief over EMS Operations for the Westerville Fire Department, a large suburb to the northeast of Columbus. Mindy has been a firefighter/paramedic for 18 years. For the first 17 years of her career, she served the Upper Arlington Fire Department, where she led the department’s peer support team and started their chaplaincy program. Mindy remains a member of Upper Arlington Fire, IAFF Local 1521.
Mindy also serves on the leadership team for the Columbus Area Peer Support Team, frequently coordinating and leading requests for response in the region and state of Ohio.
Mindy has actively served on the OAPFF peer support team since its inception.
Mindy continuously learns how our brains work and respond to trauma and is very knowledgeable on mental health resources for the first responder community.
Mindy has 3 school-age children and understands the challenges of balancing work and family and the complexities of serving in this unique profession. She is here to listen and is experienced in crisis support for individuals and groups. However, prevention and self-care are key; please reach out before the crisis too. She can help you make a plan for you to feel more successful and better able to do the job you love.
